How good is Ginger, really?

I was asked earlier this week about the benefits of Ginger and Lemon for anti-cancer treatment, and I thought I’d put up my findings here. Turns out both Ginger and Lemon (or a mix of the two) .

Ginger’s effectiveness against cancer cells

Ginger – a miracle herb

A 2015 study reveals ginger contains a pungent compound that could be up to 10,000 times more effective than conventional chemotherapy in targeting the cancer stem cells at the root of cancer malignancy. [1]

A 2015 study published in PLoS reveals a pungent component within ginger known as 6-shogaol is superior to conventional chemotherapy in targeting the root cause of breast cancer malignancy: namely, the breast cancer stem cells.

As we have read in greater detail in a previous article titled, “Cancer Stem Cells: The Key To Curing Cancer,” cancer stem cells are at the root of a wide range of cancers, not just breast cancer, and are sometimes referred to as “mother cells” because they are responsible for producing all the different “daughter” cell types that makeup the tumor colony. While cancer stem cells only constitute between .2 and 1% of the cells within any given tumor, they have the seeming “immortal” ability to self renew, are capable of continuous differentiation, are resistant to conventional chemotherapeutic agents, and are tumorigenic, i.e. are capable of “splitting off” to create new tumor colonies. Clearly, the cancer stem cells within a tumor must be destroyed if cancer treatment is to affect a lasting cure.

The new study titled, “6-Shogaol Inhibits Breast Cancer Cells and Stem Cell-Like Spheroids by Modulation of Notch Signaling Pathway and Induction of Autophagic Cell Death,” identified powerful anti-cancer stem cell activity in 6-shogaol, a pungent constituent of ginger produced when the root is either dried or cooked. The study also found that the cancer-destroying effects occurred at concentrations that were non-toxic to non-cancerous cells – a crucial difference from conventional cancer treatments that do not exhibit this kind of selective toxicity (which means they’re basically toxis to everything) and therefore can do great harm to the patient.

Meantime, Lemon has its own incredible benefits

Ginger, Lemon, Lemongrass, Kiwi and Honey – wow.

[2] What are the health benefits of lemon when it relates to cancer? In addition to the Vitamin C found in lemon juice, which is already a very well known alternative cancer treatment in its own right, the peel of the lemon also offers many health benefits, one of the most important being that lemon peel can help to eradicate toxins in your body. This may be why lemons for cancer are being studied and touted as a great remedy.

The connection between cancer and lemons isn’t something new; for decades, scientists have wondered, “Is lemon a cancer killer?” and have developed numerous studies to determine its validity.

Studies have revealed that lemon extract can successfully destroy malignant cells in a wide range of cancers, including breast cancer, colon cancer, and lung cancer (see references below). Several research studies also make the claim that lemons can destroy cancer much more effectively than chemotherapy, and in a safer and healthier manner. Additionally, the studies also show that lemon extract therapy only affects malignant cells, leaving healthy cells unharmed.

Additional health benefits of lemon include:

  • It is antibacterial
  • It is antiviral
  • It aids in digestion
  • It can be used to treat acne
  • It helps to regulate blood pressure
  • It fights against parasites and worms
  • It possesses antidepressant qualities
  • It helps to reduce stress and anxiety

Please be cautious of claims perpetuating through the internet of lemons being “10,000 times better than chemotherapy”.  If that is true, it is probably not because of the effectiveness of the lemons, but because of the ineffectiveness of chemotherapy!  Seriously though, this author could not find any authoritative scientific work that established that as a fact.  The statement is unscientific and unfounded. We prefer to approach it from the angle of a natural product that can form a nutritional barrier between health and disease. When you read the next few paragraphs, please keep this in mind.

The conclusion is inescapable. The Lemon+Ginger syrup that Ayurveda has prescribed as a good health remedy for centuries seems to be a really great way to resolve a lot of the modern physical and stress issues that plague our society.
