Do’s:

1. Being regular is important if you want to practice yoga and gain positive results. Consistency is the key to the best results.
2. Warm up before doing the poses by moving your muscles and joints a little. This can help relieve cramps while doing the poses.
3. Wear loose clothing to avoid contraction of your joints and your lungs. Breathing in and out to the fullest is a part of yoga and this may not be possible if you wear tight clothing.
4. It is advised to try to consume sentient foods, ie avoid eating eggs, meat, garlic, and mushrooms. This is supposed to aid yoga in giving you mental peace and calmness.
5. After performing the Asanas, lay on your back for a few minutes and relax your body and your breathing.
6. Try to be in a calm and peaceful environment as soon as you finish the exercises instead of heading straight into a noisy room.

Don’ts:

1. Do not practice yoga after having a meal. You should wait 2 or 3 hours before doing yoga after a heavy meal.
This can adversely affect your digestive system and the respiratory system.
2. Do not practice yoga directly under sunlight or in a very breezy place. Find a calm and comfortable spot to practice every day.
3. Do not shower immediately after doing yoga as it can alter your body’s temperature drastically. Wait for 20 to 30 minutes after the practice to do so.
4. Avoid doing yoga on a cold surface. Use a mat or a blanket to practice the poses on.
5. Make sure that you use a non-slippery surface to avoid falling and risk of injury.
6. Avoid straining yourself beyond your limits as this can cause serious injury. Know your body and you can improve your pose little by little consistently over a period of time.
